Years 9 & 10 – Design Technology
Primate Enrichment
Students investigate ethical and sustainable design to support animal welfare, creating enrichment solutions for small primate species.
The program culminates with an excursion to Hobart Zoo & Aquarium, where students work alongside zookeepers to test and evaluate enrichment effectiveness.
Learning Outcomes
Students analyse animal behaviour and welfare needs to design, develop and evaluate safe enrichment solutions for small primates.
Through research, design thinking, production and observation, students develop skills in:
- Ethical and sustainable design
- Problem-solving and innovation
- Animal behaviour and welfare analysis
- Prototype development and evaluation
- Real-world design and technology applications
The program culminates with an excursion to Hobart Zoo & Aquarium, where students observe how primates interact with enrichment and evaluate the effectiveness of their designs in a real-world setting.
