School Excursions

Hobart Zoo and Aquarium’s Education Program aligns with the Australian Curriculum Version 9 and draws on current information from government and industry experts worldwide. Students can participate in animal encounters, while teachers receive hands‑on activities and interactive resources supported by a unit plan.

🌟 School Excursion Information

School excursions to Hobart Zoo and Aquarium are offered at a discounted rate of $12.50 per student. , with one free adult per 10 students. Teachers can choose from the following two excursion options:

1. Self-Guided Visit

Explore the zoo under teacher supervision with full-day entry.

2. Conservation Education Program (Add-On)

For a $150 fee per class, students will participate in interactive talks, animal encounters, and activities led by a Conservation Educator.

Teachers receive a comprehensive unit plan aligned with the Australian Curriculum V9 and the Tasmanian Government’s Lifting Literacy Framework, featuring:

  • Pre and post-visit hands-on activities

  • Readings adjusted to appropriate Flesch–Kincaid levels

  • Lesson modifications to engage diverse learners

  • Additional tools and classroom supports

Prep–Year 6 Education Program Guide

Our comprehensive Prep–Year 6 Education Program Guide provides teachers with detailed curriculum links, lesson resources, and practical learning activities to support classroom teaching and excursion planning.

Education Access Program

This program is available to eligible Tasmanian education institutions delivering formal learning, with priority given to schools with an ICSEA value of 950 or below.

The program fee is $1,500 (incl. GST), providing access until the end of Term 4, 2025. Participating schools receive free adult entry at a 1:10 ratio, with additional adults charged at $21.

Schools may enhance their visits by upgrading to a Conservation Lesson and Encounter for $85 per class, including curriculum-aligned lessons, animal encounters, and a comprehensive unit plan for teachers.

The program includes unlimited weekday visits (subject to capacity), discounted workshops, and Touch Pool access. All visits must be booked in advance and are subject to standard terms, capacity limits, and cancellation policies.
