Years 7 & 8 – Design Technology
Small Bird & Parrot Enrichment
Students research animal behaviour and apply design thinking to create safe and sustainable enrichment products for small birds and parrots.
The program culminates with an excursion to Hobart Zoo & Aquarium, where students create enrichment items and observe how animals interact with them in a real-world setting.
Learning Outcomes
Students explore how enrichment supports animal welfare by encouraging natural behaviours, curiosity, movement, and problem-solving in small birds and parrots.
Through research, design, construction and observation, students develop skills in:
- Design thinking and creativity
- Sustainable and ethical design
- Research and observation
- Production planning and problem-solving
- Understanding animal behaviour and welfare
The program culminates with an excursion to Hobart Zoo & Aquarium, where students observe how animals interact with enrichment and reflect on the effectiveness of their designs.
