Years 11 & 12 – Marine Biology

Program Overview

Students investigate marine ecosystems, biodiversity and conservation through real-world scientific contexts. Using examples from Hobart Zoo and Aquarium’s conservation work, they explore how marine organisms survive in changing environments and examine the role of science in protecting ocean habitats and species.

Learning Outcomes

Students will:

  • Investigate marine ecosystems and organism relationships

  • Analyse how adaptations support survival in aquatic environments

  • Evaluate human impacts and conservation strategies

  • Understand the role of conservation organisations in protecting biodiversity

  • Communicate scientific ideas using evidence and correct terminology

By the end of the program, students can apply ecological concepts and scientific reasoning to real-world marine conservation contexts.
