White Peacock

White Peacock at Hobart Zoo and Aquarium

Elegant, rare, and full of charm—our White Peacock, Walter, is already turning heads at Hobart Zoo and Aquarium. At just four years old, this confident gentleman has quickly made himself at home, dazzling visitors with his snowy plumage and graceful strut. Whether he’s fanning out his magnificent tail or simply strolling with style, Walter brings an air of sophistication (with just a hint of drama 😉).

In the wild

White peacocks are not a separate species but a rare colour variation of the Indian Blue Peafowl. Their striking white feathers are the result of a genetic condition called leucism, which reduces pigmentation but does not affect their health. In the wild, peafowl are native to South Asia, where they live in forests and grasslands. Males are known for their spectacular tail displays, used to attract females during courtship.
