Swift Parrots
Swift Parrots at Hobart Zoo and Aquarium Zoo
Small, striking, and seriously speedy—Swift Parrots are one of Australia’s rarest and fastest flying birds. With their vibrant green bodies, bright red faces, and electric blue highlights, they’re a true Tasmanian treasure—and they need our help.
In the wild
Swift Parrots breed only in Tasmania’s eucalypt forests, then migrate across Bass Strait to mainland Australia for winter. Their survival is under serious threat from habitat loss and predation, making them one of the world’s most endangered parrots.
At Hobart Zoo and Aquarium Zoo, we’re proud to raise awareness for this critically endangered species and share their story with visitors of all ages.
