Miniature Highland Cows

Miniature Highland Cows at Hobart Zoo and Aquarium Zoo

With their shaggy coats, sweeping horns, and teddy bear faces, Miniature Highland Cows are a crowd favourite at Hobart Zoo and Aquarium Zoo. These pint-sized versions of the iconic Scottish breed are just as hardy and even more adorable—perfect ambassadors for hands-on farmyard fun.

In the wild

Originally from the rugged Highlands of Scotland, these cows are built for tough climates, with long double-layered coats that keep them warm and dry. Despite their wild looks, Highland Cows are known for being gentle, curious, and calm around people.

At Hobart Zoo and Aquarium Zoo, our miniature herd lives in a large paddock where visitors can get up close, hand-feed them, and experience farm life in the friendliest way possible.
