Jungle Carpet Python
Jungle Carpet Python at Hobart Zoo and Aquarium
Striking, elegant, and surprisingly calm—the Jungle Carpet Python is one of the most stunning snakes you’ll ever meet. With bold black and gold patterns across their scales, these non-venomous giants are both beautiful and fascinating to watch. At Hobart Zoo and Aquarium, our Jungle Carpet Python is a favourite during encounters, impressing guests with its size, smooth scales, and relaxed nature.
In the wild
Jungle Carpet Pythons are native to the rainforests and woodlands of northeastern Queensland, Australia. They are excellent climbers, often found resting in trees or coiled among branches, waiting to ambush prey. As constrictors, they use their strong bodies to gently but firmly coil around food such as birds, mammals, or reptiles before swallowing them whole. Despite their large size, these pythons are shy and play an important role in keeping ecosystems balanced by controlling animal populations.
