Common Marmosets

Common Marmosets at Hobart Zoo and Aquarium Zoo

Tiny, agile, and full of energy—Common Marmosets are one of the smallest monkeys in the world and some of the most entertaining to watch. With their tufted ears, expressive faces, and constant movement, these curious primates are full of personality.

In the wild

Native to the coastal forests of Brazil, Common Marmosets live in small family groups and are highly social, communicating through calls, scent marking, and body language. Their sharp claws (unusual for primates) help them cling to trees and leap between branches with ease.

    Vertical Habitats

Their enclosure is built for climbing, with branches, ropes, platforms, and hiding spaces that encourage movement and mimic their forest homes.

    Foraging Enrichment

Marmosets enjoy a diet of fruit, insects, eggs, and tree sap—presented in puzzle feeders, hanging cups, and hidden nooks to stimulate their natural foraging instincts.

    Family First

As highly social animals, our marmosets live in small family groups to encourage grooming, vocalising, and strong social bonds.

🐾 Watch them scurry, climb, and chatter—Common Marmosets are small in size but big on personality, and always on the go at Hobart Zoo and Aquarium Zoo.
