Year 3 -Wild Transformations

Year 3 students explore how animals grow and change by investigating life cycles and the stages living things go through from birth to adulthood. They learn that a life cycle shows how an animal develops, survives and reproduces, helping species continue.

Through guided inquiry, research and hands-on tasks, students examine how scientists use life cycle knowledge to understand ecosystems, identify species at risk of extinction and support conservation efforts. They also explore how global tools such as the IUCN Red List help scientists monitor and protect wildlife populations.

Learning Outcomes

Students will learn to:

  • Define what a life cycle is and explain its purpose

  • Describe the main stages of an animal’s life cycle

  • Explain how scientists use life cycle knowledge

  • Identify animals that are at risk of extinction

  • Describe how life cycle knowledge helps protect species

By the end of the unit, students can explain life cycles using scientific language and describe how this knowledge supports conservation and environmental care.
