Spotted-tail Quolls
Spotted-tail Quolls at Hobart Zoo and Aquarium
Fierce, fast, and fantastically spotted—the Spotted-tail Quoll (also known as the Tiger Quoll) is one of Australia’s most elusive predators. With their russet-red coat and white spots (even on the tail!), these agile hunters are a rare glimpse into Australia's wild past.
In the wild
Found in forests and woodlands along eastern Australia and Tasmania, Spotted-tail Quolls are expert climbers and nocturnal prowlers. They’re solitary carnivores, hunting everything from insects to birds and small mammals with stealth and speed.
How We Care for These Stealthy Hunters at Hobart Zoo and Aquarium
-
Carnivore’s Feast
Our quolls enjoy a varied diet of meat, insects, and whole-prey enrichment, hidden around their habitat to stimulate stalking and scavenging behaviours.
-
Natural Ninja Space
Their exhibit includes logs, hollow branches, rockwork, and climbing platforms, giving them opportunities to leap, climb, and stay out of sight—just how they like it.
-
Conservation Spotlight
As a vulnerable species, quolls are part of Hobart Zoo and Aquarium’s commitment to protecting Australia’s native carnivores through education and habitat awareness.
🐾 Spot the spotty one if you can! These agile marsupial predators are fast, secretive, and fiercely fascinating—a living reminder of Australia’s wild heart.
