Guinea Pigs

Guinea Pigs at Hobart Zoo and Aquarium Zoo

Tiny, talkative, and totally adorable—guinea pigs are one of the most popular animals in our hands-on farmyard area. With their soft fur, gentle nature, and cheerful squeaks, they’re perfect companions for young visitors and animal lovers alike.

In the wild

Originally from South America, guinea pigs were domesticated by Indigenous cultures over 3,000 years ago. Today, they’re beloved around the world for their friendly personalities, social nature, and endless variety of colours and coat types.

At Hobart Zoo and Aquarium Zoo, our guinea pigs live in a calm, interactive enclosure where they can graze, explore, and safely meet our guests.
