Geese

Geese at Hobart Zoo and Aquarium Zoo

Vocal, social, and full of personality—geese are some of the most charming and alert birds you’ll meet at Hobart Zoo and Aquarium Zoo. With their long necks, waddling gaits, and unmistakable honks, they’re always ready to make their presence known.

In the wild

Domestic and ornamental geese have been bred from wild species found across Europe, Asia, and North America, where they typically live near wetlands, rivers, and open grassy areas. Known for their loyalty and strong flock bonds, geese are excellent parents and even better lookouts.

At Hobart Zoo and Aquarium Zoo, our geese roam freely in shared paddocks and ponds, providing a natural and peaceful presence throughout the zoo grounds.

Shallow ponds and water features allow for splashing, bathing, and preening, which are all essential to goose health and happiness.

    Natural Social Life

Our geese live in close-knit flocks, giving them plenty of opportunities for honking conversations, nesting, and exploring together.
