In the wild

Domesticated for hundreds of years, rabbits originally come from European wild rabbits, and today they come in many shapes, sizes, and colours. They’re social, sensitive animals that thrive on gentle interaction and enrichment.

At Hobart Zoo and Aquarium Zoo, our rabbits live in a peaceful enclosure designed for comfort, exploration, and guest interaction—while always putting their welfare first.

How We Keep Our Rabbits Thriving

Fresh, Natural Diet

Rabbits enjoy a mix of hay, leafy greens, pellets, and root vegetables, supporting their digestion and dental health.
Burrows & Hideouts

Their enclosure includes tunnels, shaded shelters, soft bedding, and digging zones—mimicking their natural behaviours and giving them choice and comfort.
Calm Encounters

Our rabbits are part of the interactive farmyard, where guests can gently pat or feed them under staff supervision—creating safe, positive experiences for both animals and people.
